Its been over a decade since the Syberia series last captured my attention. The original two games, desgined by Belgian comic artist Benoit Sokal, were a fresh breath of whimsy, combining a real Eastern European style and atmosphere with fantastical ideas and intricate steampunk contraptions. To my satisfaction, the story was completed by the end of Syberia II, to the extent that its themes had reached their conclusion and the journey had wrapped up. Not so, says Sokal, as after an extensive development of around eight years, Syberia 3 now arrives on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Unfor...

Nintendo has announced today they will be releasing an XL variation of the 2DS console. The New 2DS XL system will be released in Australia on June 15, 2017 for a suggested retailed price of AU$199.99. Two colours will be available at launch black/turquoise and white/orange. Unlike the regular model, the New 2DS XL brings back the clamp shell design featured in the DS and 3DS console range. The screens are the same size as the 3DS XL, but will of course only display games in 2D. The system is also lighter than the 3DS XL, but includes built-in NFC functionality to connect to amiibos and is f...

1996 has been a BIG year in gaming. Those of us who could afford to shell out for an N64 have been playing Super Mario 64 non-stop since release, while Sony Playstation fans have had their hands full with Crash Bandicoot and Resident Evil, both making a splash on debut. Shoot-em-up enthusiasts have been spoiled for choice with Quake hitting the scene this year, as well as the glorious, three-dimensional return of everyones favourite badass, Duke Nukem. Wooah! Radical! Seems like thats all 1996 has to offer& not! If thats what you think, youd better talk to the hand coz the face ain...

On a day in which we remember our diggers, is there a more appropriate gaming news story than a release date for a game set in WWII? As with all things Call of Duty WWII, another strange turn of events has a building in Paris displaying the release date before the official reveal which is expected on April 26 on the official Call of Duty WWII website. Call of Duty WWII was originally leaked to a YouTube channel that only had a couple of hundred followers, where many fans called the channel out saying it was fake news and did not believe that a small-time Youtuber had been sent an anonymou...

The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) was technically the game that got me off World of Warcraft. I didn’t get addicted to ESO like I did with WoW, but it got me to remember that MMORPG’s can be more than just a dull end-game grind. When Bethesda teased Morrowind as an expansion for ESO my jaw hit the floor. A game I pre-ordered on the original Xbox being remade into a MMO expansion? This I couldn’t miss. After the initial announcement and watching some annoying Twitch videos which included sneak previews of gameplay, I was itching to get my hands on the new Morrowind, so when Rocket Chainsaw ...

It was only a few years ago that Hotline Miami opened my eyes to a kind of top-down mayhem that I had never experienced before, but unlike other successful Indie games, it didn’t immediately set a trend. Only now are games coming out that seem to take inspiration for Hotline Miami, with one in particular being especially interesting. Developed in Australia and bringing a new world-bending teleportation mechanic into the mix, Mr Shifty is an interesting top-down beat ‘em up that just misses the mark. As Mr Shifty is the name of the game, shifting is your main means of defeating enemies and ...

Last week Bandai Namco released a teaser trailer for a new game project coming. No specifics were revealed at the time, but the repeated showing of vampires and monsters, along with the hashtag PrepareToDine (a similar hashtag PrepareToDie was used for Dark Souls games), led people to believe that the project might be a Dark Souls-esque vampire game. Bandai Namco have now officially revealed CODE VEIN,, a brand new grueling action rpg from the developers of God Eater. Set in the not-too distant future, society as we know it has collapsed, and the world has been overrun by the Thorns...

Gamers arent known for being a patient bunch. People want their content now, want to master the game now, and want to reach max level now. Developers are aware of this impulse and strategize around it, resulting in the advent of such luxuries as pre-loaded digital purchases, pay-to-win micro-transactions, and Week 1 paid DLC. Rarely do you see a game that tries to deny us our instant gratification. As such, it was with great anticipation that I approached Rain World, the debut release from developers VIDEOCULT, which teased a journey of survival that would demand a slower and more co...

Reports are coming in from IGN and The Verge that Nintendo has discontinued the NES Classic Edition in the United States. That means any shipments currently on the way or in-store are the last you may see. This announcement includes both the console and the NES Classic controller. Nintendo has only released information about stock in America though, so you can still have some some hopes of seeing the console arrive on Australian shores in the future. If you were hoping/waiting for a reduction in the price of the console however, that is now looking extremely unlikely. Heres the official word ...

There appears to be a deepening divide in the video game industry between two differing developmental paradigms. On one hand, we have developers who aim to secure the ongoing attention and repeat custom of their players by means of constant reward, encouragement and validation (see Overwatch). On the other, there seems to be a small contingent of devs who strive to provide an experience that, while not quite as easy to swallow, has a lasting effect on their players (see Dark Souls III). The ability to craft an enjoyable and rewarding game from what are, on paper, frustrating and unfair mecha...

Ubisofts Ghost Recon Wildlands had a very rocky launch, with bugs and glitches appearing all over the vast map of Bolivia. We scored it a measly 3/5 stars, stating that it was a solid game hidden behind some game-breaking code, such as NPC intelligence and objects simply not spawning at all. Now with Title Update 3 (Patch 1.05) live, it has become evident that Ubisoft has begun work to fix many of the bugs Wildlands launched with. We got our hands on the official patch notes, which you can check out below. Key changes for us include Fixed various world building glitches and the array of g...
