Splatoon 2 Global Testfire Announced

February 12, 2017

Are you picking up a Nintendo Switch in March? Well, if you are, Nintendo have just announced that you’ll be able to try out Splatoon 2 before it launches in Winter 2017.

From March 24 to 26 you will be able to download and play Splatoon 2 during six different 1 hour timeslots. While this isn’t the style of beta or demo that you may be used to, it guarantees ample players to duke it out with while you’re online. This will be a great chance to try out Splatoon 2 and see the new abilities and weapons coming with the game, as well as trying Splatoon for the first time if you missed out on the WiiU game.

The Nintendo Switch releases on March 3, while Splatoon 2 will launch in Winter 2017.

Today Bethesda has released the first Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind gameplay trailer. Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind continues the success of Bethesdas attempt at cracking in to the MMORPG market, and is the first large scale expansion for Elder Scrolls Online, which launched almost three years ago in April, 2014. The Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind gameplay trailer shows several familiar locations in Morrowind, including the reimagined starting town Seyda Neen. Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind is set 700 years before Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, and therefore much of the islands towns a...

In this review I will continuously reference Dark Souls. Normally I try to avoid comparisons: every title should be discussed and rated on its own merits. But in the case of Nioh, Team Ninjas once-was-vaporware action RPG, the comparisons are necessary. Whatever twists and turns Niohs turbulent development cycle took, the end result is a vision deeply infused with influence from Hidetaka Miyazaki, yet impressively bold with its own conceptualisation to stand proud as an original work. Nioh is part Samurai Souls, but mostly a long overdue, confident body of work from a developer with scattere...

Anyone that grew up in the 90’s will remember the virtual pet craze. Made famous in particular by the Tamagotchi brand, the toys required players to take care of their own little pet including feeding it, playing with it, and cleaning up its poop. The craze saw the birth of Digimon, which later evolved into an anime and manga series. Digimon World: Next Order has more in common with the 90’s toy line than one might expect, offering a different experience than last year’s Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. Digimon World: Next Order starts with the familiar story of high school student Takuto (o...

Its been over a decade since Psychonauts hit the PlayStation 2, and to be honest I thought Id completely forgotten the psychic world of Raz and friends. I should know better at this point than to doubt the talent of Double Fine and Tim Schafer, as within minutes of slipping on my PlayStation VR headset to play The Rhombus of Ruin, it all came flooding back to me. The original Psychonauts played to Schafers best talents, creating endearing and memorable characters in bizarre worlds that parody and heighten aspects of ours. Psychonauts in The Rhombus of Ruin, developed exclusively for ...

Halo Wars was an interesting, if not entirely successful experiment. Primarily, it was an experiment to bring a fully-fledged Real-Time Strategy game to consoles, a genre which has traditionally made its home with the hotkeys and precise mouse control of PC gaming. While I feel that experiment wasnt entirely successful, the game did have a legion of fans who enjoyed its simplified rock-paper-scissors power balance and multiplayer possibilities. It also showed, to a degree, that the Halo universe can expand beyond the confines of the FPS genre, even if its story is still cemented in the same...

I’ve loved Dragon Ball, ever since high school, when I can remember getting up early to watch the morning cartoons on Cheez TV. The adventures of Goku and his friends as they persevered through all manner of catastrophes got me hook, line and sinker, and I’ve loved the franchise ever since. The series translated well into the fighting games that many know, like the Budokai series and the more recent Xenoverse games, but it was the handheld titles that really captured that sense of adventure that is inherent in Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku for Gameboy Advance and Dragon Ba...

RC: So, we are here with Gus Sorola from Rooster Teeth, how are you doing today? Gus: Good, a little tired, but keeping going! The original Nier from the last console generation was released to a mixed reception many would have looked no further than the average review scores and the disappointing graphics and given the whole affair a miss. As a busy/lazy uni student, that was certainly the case with me. However, Nier did attract a cult following, as those who did play the game found a rich narrative and a unique gameplay style that combined elements of RPG and fast-paced action. The Drakengard spin-off now finally has a proper sequel on the way, care of PlatinumGames, and Square-Enix allowed me to play through...

Italy. The birthplace of fascism. The last time I blew Italy to pieces was in Just Cause 3, a game which is also a 3rd person shooter, but that’s where the similarities with Sniper Elite 4 end. Sniper Elite 4 is a classic World War 2 shooter which has both realistic and noob-friendly difficulty levels allowing you to play the game how you would like to. The idea of the Sniper Elite series is to stealth around and very rarely use anything other than your sniper rifle, but close-quarters combat is still top notch with stealth knife kills being rewarded highly. Sniper Elite 4 is a game about fo...

Upfront I feel I have to say that I was terrible at last years solid and gritty DiRT Rally, and as my hands-0n time with DiRT 4 has proved, I am no better now. Despite playing DiRT 4 in ideal conditions, on a PS4 with a great racing rig set-up with a nice Thrustmaster wheel with full force feedback, I spent a lot of my time bashing and crashing into fences, scrub, dirt, and just anywhere that wasnt really the assigned track. However, my lack of skill and failure on several levels to become any good at DiRT 4 (even on its less realistic, more normal setting) should be taken as a rin...

Dark Souls III was one of last years best games, and like the rest of its series ilk, it has enjoyed some substantial post-release content. First came the DLC Ashes of Ariandel late last year, and now April will bring us The Ringed City, which promises a more open-ended adventure to complement the rather linear previous DLC. The titular Ringed City itself is not the entirety of the new content, as this DLC is billed as a journey to that end location. As the press release states, a lone adventurer descends into the madness of the earth and uncovers the secrets of the past. As players make...

Fighting games have been a staple of our gaming libraries since the heady days of Mortal Kombat on the Sega Master System and Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo. While we love 2D-plane fighters, the introduction of Tekken on the original PlayStation opened our eyes to the world of 3D-plane fighters. So imagine our disappointment when after three years into the current console generation we still hadn’t seen the release of a new Tekken game. Luckily, Bandai Namco gave us the opportunity to try out the console version of Tekken 7 and get our long-awaited Tekken fix. The first thing we not...

Get Even was announced a few years ago by Polish developer, The Farm 51, and is finally nearing a release in May this year. The developer met a mixed reception with their previous work on the Painkiller sequel Hell & Damnation, but Get Even has been designed as an original IP for Bandai Namco. Its a blend of several genres in what is described as a First Person Thriller, and, not knowing what to expect, it was the most surprising game I played on my visit to the Bandai Namco offices. Mixing live action cutscenes with first-person gameplay, Get Even has a surreal premise that encou...

BioWare today revealed that Mass Effect Andromeda will no longer include the Paragon / Renegade dialogue system from previous games. In an interview with Official Xbox Magazine, Mass Effect Andromedas creative director Mac Walters stated that the dialogue system felt very Shepard – they were very tied to the Shepard character, so they didn’t really make sense if we weren’t going to have Shepard as our protagonist. The new dialogue system for Mass Effect Andromeda is going to focus more on agreeing and disagreeing. What this means for fans of the series is that there will be no clear g...

In the last few years crowdfunding of games has surged in popularity, with projects on Kickstarter and its ilk continue to raise higher dollar figures and break records. When Slightly Mad Studios crowdfunded Project CARS back in 2012 they skipped all established models and instead went directly to their fans, issuing shares of ownership that are still paying dividends today. As Tim wrote in 2015, Project CARS was an excellent racer and the first game in the genre to really challenge Forza and Gran Turismo in some time. This is especially amazing considering its relatively low $5 million budget...

Tarsier Studios come from a long association with neat platformers, assisting in the development of titles like LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway Unfolded. Little Nightmares, on the other hand, is entirely their own creation, bringing puzzle-platformer elements to a twisted Tim Burton-esque world. Bandai Namco recently invited us to play through a short section from Little Nightmares, and while my time with the game was limited, it certainly peaked my interest for the full experience. Little Nightmares takes place on board The Maw, an enormous vessel home to strange creatures, as well as ou...
