With the annual sports franchises gearing up to release their 2019 iterations over the next few months, one of the last holdouts for announcement has been 2K’s annual WWE franchise. After taking the franchise in some interesting new directions in last years iteration, 2K has announced WWE 2K20, releasing on October 22nd on PS4, Xbox One & PC. The publisher also confirmed the franchise will continue to explore new directions and push further in some other areas, whilst also delivering on some much-requested features and content.

The brunt of the single-player content will focus around its cover stars – Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns, the former of which is the first woman to grace the cover of the series. Lynch is one of four playable characters in this years new WWE Showcase mode, centered around the Four Horsewomen of WWE (which include Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks & Bayley) and the reinvention of women’s wrestling in mainline WWE. Roman Reigns headlines the return of 2K Towers, with a special story-focused tower centered around the career of Reigns.

WWE 2K20 can best be described as breaking down barriers, as not only will mixed tag matches make a return, you’ll also be able to finally play a Female MyCareer mode, which sets to continue down the weird path that last years MyCareer went down. Completing this is the all-new WWE 2K20 Originals, brand new showcase content that aims to take existing WWE superstars and reinvent them with all new themes and storylines. While these Originals are still shrouded in secrecy, they’ll make up the brunt of the games downloadable offerings instead of additional superstars and moves.

While not much was revealed as far as the roster goes, by far the most exciting addition is 2019 Hall of Famer Chyna, who makes her first appearance in the WWE 2K series and her first WWE game appearance since 2001. With the game looking to explore some new and weirder directions, it’s going to be exciting to see where the game and the series goes from here.
