With E3 2019 mere days away, Nintendo have gotten out early to discuss one of their more anticipated titles – Pokémon Sword & Shield, with a special Pokémon Direct to fill in a few more details as to what the next generation of Pokémon games will be like. Running only 15 minutes, it didn’t go into excruciating detail unlike some other specialized Nintendo Directs, but it gave enough detail on the Galar Region and its inhabitants that was sorely needed. More importantly, we have a release date! You’ll be able to play Pokémon Sword & Shield on November 15th 2019!

First off, the biggest new feature in the game (no pun intended) is Dynamax! What this means is that now every Pokémon has the ability to grow gigantic for some truly colossal battles. All of your moves become “MAX” versions delivering more powerful versions than ever before. However, Dynamaxing takes its toll, and you’ll only be able to do it for three turns and only once per battle. Because of these truly epic battles, gym leader battles are now contained within massive stadiums to allow each fight to have enough room and be a spectacle of its own. They’re even televised now across the region, being its favourite pastime.

Between each city now are are areas deemed Wild Areas, where Pokémon roam free and the camera is moveable, allowing you to take in the sights and wonders of the Galar Region. Dotted across the world are spots where you can team up with three other players, both locally or online, to take part in Max Raid Battles. In these fights, you’ll be taking on a Pokémon that is permanently in Dynamax mode, and work with the other trainers to take them down and catch them. The Pokémon you can get from these Max Raid Battles depend on where you are in the game world, as well as the current state of the weather in-game, and some Pokémon can only be found during these battles!

Lastly, we were given a brief look at some of the new Pokémon you’ll encounter in the Galar Region, including the legendary Pokémon gracing the covers of each version of the game. Pokémon Sword players will get to encounter Zacian, who is said to move incredibly gracefully and carries a sword in its mouth. Pokémon Shield players will get to encounter Zamazenta, who can also move incredibly gracefully, but instead has a body that looks to be covered in a shield. Both monsters are said to be big parts of the story of the game, but no further details were announced on that front.

With a little over five months to go, Pokémon Sword & Shield are set to be fine additions to the Pokémon franchise.

Welcome back, CouchWarriors family! It’s been a few months since we were forced into isolation by the COVID-19 pandemic. As tough as it has been to not get out to regular ranbats and weeklies, we have seen some great community efforts to stay connected and run online tournaments for any game which supports them. Chief among these online events has been the CouchWarriors League, which we launched with incredible timing just before the coronavirus news started to hit. What was intended as a national leaderboard for state ranbats and majors has shifted with the times, and become a weekly ...

With the world under lockdown, it’s the perfect time for all sorts of gaming, be it video games or even tabletop gaming, or even watching people play games. Wizards of the Coasts are well aware of this, and with their upcoming D&D Live event happening from June 19 – 21, they’re bringing a heap of celebrity players and DM’s together virtually for a good cause: play games and raise money for Red Nose Day. The talent on offer is particularly big, with actors such as David Harbour (Stranger Things), Brandon Routh (Legends of Tomorrow), Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil), Janina ...

As we’ve experienced a blockbuster half year on account of video gaming, its not unusual for a few refined titles to fly under the radar. One in particular that I absolutely adore is Nioh 2; the follow up to one of 2017’s best games. While it is an action adventure game at heart, it primarily embraces many elements of the increasingly popular Masocore genre. For fans of games like Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha and the universally lauded Dark Souls, you’ll be expecting steep difficulty curves and light RPG-style stat management to complement the reflex and pattern-intensive flow of ...

You might not have heard of KartRider, a massively popular game in South Korea, but Nexon is making a big push to get the series introduced to the West in 2020. While KartRider Drift will be hitting PC & consoles in the future, KartRider Rush+ is coming to mobile devices and is currently taking pre-registration. Pre-registering will not only get your account ready, but will help contribute to a number of incentives to get you ready when the game launches, such as additional currencies, cosmetics, karts and more. The game is set to feature a huge amount of content for a mobile racing game, i...

Godzilla has done what feels like everything since first hitting screens in 1954. We’ve seen Godzilla battle King Kong in a true East meets West monster showdown. We’ve seen Godzilla take on Charles Barkley in a basketbrawl for the ages. Now the King of the Monsters is taking on the Planeswalkers of Magic: The Gathering in its latest set, Ikoria: Land of Behemoths. Best of all, Godzilla won’t be coming to Ikoria alone. Several of Godzilla’s legendary kaiju rivals will also be joining the action as one of the special features of the Ikoria set: Godzilla Series Monster C...
