CouchWarriors QLD Ranbats for November 2019 were held on Saturday the 2nd at George St Brisbane. Here’s a summary of the results in every game and how the top matches played out. A complete listing of match results and brackets for each game can be viewed on Smash.gg here.

Results for SFV, MK11, Tekken 7, and Smash U count towards the standings for the BAM Path To EVO series for that game, which can be viewed here.

Street Fighter V

  1. pahnda
  2. Dale
  3. 903|SwinGo

Another ranbat that showed the evenness of the QLD scene as Ervin-Jason “pahnda” Garanovic and Dale Roy took the top two spots. Their points here left them leading a pack of 6 QLD players between 26 and 22 points in the SFV Path to EVO standings. Unfortunately, the higher concentration of points in other states leaves them all well behind the leaders.

Tekken 7

  1. Rest
  2. jmkayz
  3. LetsTalkTekken|DrpPnts4Food

Chang “Rest” Seop Park returned this month to resume his dominance over not only the QLD Tekken scene, but the BAM Path to EVO points race. His undefeated run here will help him in a trans-tasman rivalry against last season’s winner Daniel “Kanga|wowzer” Cossington.

DragonBall FighterZ

  1. Mustella
  2. KHFC|Driver
  3. KHFC|SweetLeaves

KHFC’s best were once again denied by Mustella, who extended his winning streak in DragonBall by another month. KHFC|Driver couldn’t get the job done again this month despite getting two shots at the champ. Maybe the final ranbat of 2019 will be his time?

Samurai Shodown

  1. Jer
  2. :D?|Sleepmode
  3. Necromancy Black

“Jer K” has made it the ranbat podium for SamSho a few times before, but this month there was no holding him back. Sleepmode is another player consistently making top 4 at these events – perhaps the near-miss will see his name be the next to rise to the very top.

Smash Melee

  1. Auro
  2. LoFT|Manacloud
  3. Brad

A powerful name reappeared in the finals this month as Sam “Auro” White made a huge run to 1st place. Auro’s dominance was challenged only by LoFT|Manacloud, but that turned out to be a fierce contest in itself as the two finished the night 7-5 in games across 3 sets

Smash Ultimate

  1. QLD|Ari
  2. 411|Ben Gold
  3. QLD|Shitashi

We had seen something of a curse develop around the winners bracket over the last few months, with consistent bracket reset wins in the Smash Ultimate finals. QLD|Ari holding off Ben “411|Ben Gold” Gold shattered that hoodoo and made it 2 wins in 3 months, leaving him 7th in the BAM Path to EVO rankings.

Smash Ultimate Doubles

  1. 411|Ben Gold / schooner
  2. QLD|Shitashi / QLD|Ari
  3. Shadrew / Negima

Another month, another Ben Gold doubles win! This time he brought Schooner along for the ride, and they cruised through the bracket only dropping a single game to the team of Kwaksy and KaiDASH in Winners Quarters.

Ultra Street Fighter IV

  1. pahnda
  2. Angus
  3. Jack Mason

pahnda successfully achieved the Street Fighter double header, sweeping this tournament in addition to claiming top points in SFV!

Congratulations to all of our top-placed competitors from November! You can find details of future ranbat events on the CouchWarriors Facebook page.

July 10, 2020

Well, 6 months down and 6 to go. 2020 may have turned out to be an inauspicious year to launch our new CouchWarriors League, but just like any FGC great, we’ve adapted. Online events have kept the CWL leaderboards ticking over during the pandemic months, and we’ve even seen new players gain big opportunities from this unusual focus on netplay. Certainly for those who live outside of the main metro regions this season is looking like their best chance to make a tilt at national recognition! One important thing to remember when reading these standings. At the creation of CouchWarrio...

June 3, 2020

Welcome back, CouchWarriors family! It’s been a few months since we were forced into isolation by the COVID-19 pandemic. As tough as it has been to not get out to regular ranbats and weeklies, we have seen some great community efforts to stay connected and run online tournaments for any game which supports them. Chief among these online events has been the CouchWarriors League, which we launched with incredible timing just before the coronavirus news started to hit. What was intended as a national leaderboard for state ranbats and majors has shifted with the times, and become a weekly ...

With the world under lockdown, it’s the perfect time for all sorts of gaming, be it video games or even tabletop gaming, or even watching people play games. Wizards of the Coasts are well aware of this, and with their upcoming D&D Live event happening from June 19 – 21, they’re bringing a heap of celebrity players and DM’s together virtually for a good cause: play games and raise money for Red Nose Day. The talent on offer is particularly big, with actors such as David Harbour (Stranger Things), Brandon Routh (Legends of Tomorrow), Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil), Janina ...

May 20, 2020

As we’ve experienced a blockbuster half year on account of video gaming, its not unusual for a few refined titles to fly under the radar. One in particular that I absolutely adore is Nioh 2; the follow up to one of 2017’s best games. While it is an action adventure game at heart, it primarily embraces many elements of the increasingly popular Masocore genre. For fans of games like Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha and the universally lauded Dark Souls, you’ll be expecting steep difficulty curves and light RPG-style stat management to complement the reflex and pattern-intensive flow of ...

You might not have heard of KartRider, a massively popular game in South Korea, but Nexon is making a big push to get the series introduced to the West in 2020. While KartRider Drift will be hitting PC & consoles in the future, KartRider Rush+ is coming to mobile devices and is currently taking pre-registration. Pre-registering will not only get your account ready, but will help contribute to a number of incentives to get you ready when the game launches, such as additional currencies, cosmetics, karts and more. The game is set to feature a huge amount of content for a mobile racing game, i...
