EGAA / InEsportsAU

The Esports Games Association of Australia has been preparing activity to bring together esports interest groups in the midst of the pandemic facing the world in 2020. As part of this planning process, the EGAA has reflected on its focus and outreach methods with local communities and is proud to bring forth new initiatives.

At its core, the EGAA is an advocacy group for the esports industry.

Together, we are the Industry for Esports in this country, and that is why we are launching the InEsports brand as a new suite of communication & outreach programs.

InEsports Australia aims to provide Australian esports professionals, enthusiasts, players and fans around the country more ways to come together and talk about the issues that are most important to them.

The InEsports programs will focus on bettering interest group interaction by attempting to provide more structure to diverse communities’ engagement. In doing so, the EGAA hopes to create more platforms for topical discussion and opportunities for new ideas and initiatives to be explored in front of the entire industry.

In addition, the InEsports initiatives also look to play a more informative role for wider audiences both inside and outside the industry. Lastly, the InEsports programs will aim to give prominence to the accomplishments of those within the industry both on and off the competitive stage.
Here’s a look at the InEsports programs rolling out progressively from August 2020:

Monthly newsletter highlighting the latest news in esports for the month, with a heavier focus on domestic updates and achievements in the local industry, or those Australians punching above their weight internationally.

– Monthly livestream show to discuss industry topics, issues affecting the scene and the opportunities for Australian esports to expand.

The first InEsports show will air on August 13th at 8:30pm AEST and will feature members of the EGAA board covering topics such as the current impacts of COVID-19 on the Australian esports industry.

Join host Ben Green as he talks with EGAA CEO Matt Jessep and Founding Chairman Nick Vanzetti from 8:30pm AEST August 13 at twitch.tv/inesportsaus.

– Quarterly networking meetups in rotating cities around Australia. The event format is intended as late afternoon / after-work sessions and involves a short keynote delivered by prominent guest covering topical matters, followed by networking food & drinks. Given the current pandemic and varying stages of restrictions, these are currently on hold, but planned to commence when more clearly safe & practical.

Finally, the EGAA is looking to run an industry wide stakeholder survey to better identify the needs of our members and community. In addition to the InEsports initiatives, the industry survey will be a key focus of the EGAA throughout Q4 2020. To help us find out which topics are important to you, keep your eyes on our socials, as we will post on our Facebook and Twitter when the survey is open for submissions.

The first fortnight of September has kicked off the endgame for CouchWarriors League 2020, with the national FGC organiser announcing that the remaining events on its tournament calendar would award double the normal ranking points to top 8 finishers!  This change goes some way to addressing the unexpectedly low number of points available this season after COVID forced a switch to monthly online events. Now you can imagine a chance for almost anyone to make a late run at top 16 – the cutoff point for invitation to the $2000 season finale event! The new points bonus looks to be most im...

Last Saturday’s CouchWarriors League event drew 110 entrants for Smash Ultimate – the first turnout of that size since May. Despite the packed field, this month turned out to be just another chapter in the fast-solidifying dominance of two players who have owned these online ranbats – as they finally begin to see that consistency pay off on the leaderboard.   Congrats @SebPro101 for a huge climb, reset bracket & takes final over @Dura_SSB. Seb wins $50 Steam voucher on us + full league points. Thanks all for playing #CWLeague! Ladder: https://t.co/hZfHncle57 Next month rego soon @ ...

Out of the four major games covered as part of the CouchWarriors League, Tekken 7 continues to be the most unpredictable and hotly contested. Months of national competition in these online events has failed to show a single dominant champion. Instead, a host of talented and dedicated players are constantly one-upping each other as they struggle to reel in the points totals amassed by ranbat winners in the first months of the year. Six grinders in particular have been consistently scooping top points; Lucky Chloe main Chris “Stuckles” Stuckey, Queensland champion “Harlem”, commu...

The end of a console generation usually means annualised sports games get put into a holding pattern: The graphics are touched up, the physics get tweaked, the stats get adjusted, nothing more. It’s rare for a new mode to be introduced or for major quality of life improvements to be made. Even so, F1 2020 goes above and beyond in these regards. The marquee feature added to F1 2020 is the My Team mode. Instead of transplanting yourself into one of the existing teams, as was the case with previous games, My Team has you create an 11th team to compete with the rest of the field and serve as it...

With 2020 continuing to be a year of surprises, Microsoft have finally come out and detailed a crucial bit of Xbox Series X launch information: the console will be launching sometime in November 2020. However, it’ll be missing one of its crucial launch titles, Halo Infinite, which was delayed until sometime in 2021. In a statement on the Xbox News blog, Microsoft weren’t ready to give an exact date for the launch of their fourth console, or even a price, but were happy to tout that even without Halo Infinite launching this year, there’s still plenty of reasons to invest in a...

July 19th brought us the third event of the new online Smash Ultimate league created by Cospendium and Kanga Esports. With overall leader Joseph “Doctor A Ness” Cresnik sitting out this time, there was the opportunity for a winner to close the gap he’d started to open over the pack – and 142 smashers showed up to try their luck. Oh, and the winner would get to lean back in a new Zenox gaming chair at the end of the day.   A huge thank you to everyone who joined us today. Congratz to the top 8 of the July @cospendium SSBU League! (Especially DD who secured the Gami...

Well, 6 months down and 6 to go. 2020 may have turned out to be an inauspicious year to launch our new CouchWarriors League, but just like any FGC great, we’ve adapted. Online events have kept the CWL leaderboards ticking over during the pandemic months, and we’ve even seen new players gain big opportunities from this unusual focus on netplay. Certainly for those who live outside of the main metro regions this season is looking like their best chance to make a tilt at national recognition! One important thing to remember when reading these standings. At the creation of CouchWarrio...
