The Australian Government has announced that as part of the 2014/15 Federal Budget, it will cease funding to the Australian Interactive Games Fund, commencing 1 July, 2014.

The decision will result in a budget saving of $10 million. The money will be “redirected by the Government to repair the Budget and fund policy priorities.”

The Australian Interactive Games Fund originally intended to deliver to the industry $20 million across three years. Then Arts Minister Simon Crean, when announcing the Fund, said that, “We need to invest to ensure Australia remains at the forefront”, before describing the gaming industry as, ”a growing sector where artists, musicians, writers, performers and software developers meet the local and global demand for interactive entertainment and education.”

The end of a console generation usually means annualised sports games get put into a holding pattern: The graphics are touched up, the physics get tweaked, the stats get adjusted, nothing more. It’s rare for a new mode to be introduced or for major quality of life improvements to be made. Even so, F1 2020 goes above and beyond in these regards. The marquee feature added to F1 2020 is the My Team mode. Instead of transplanting yourself into one of the existing teams, as was the case with previous games, My Team has you create an 11th team to compete with the rest of the field and serve as it...

With 2020 continuing to be a year of surprises, Microsoft have finally come out and detailed a crucial bit of Xbox Series X launch information: the console will be launching sometime in November 2020. However, it’ll be missing one of its crucial launch titles, Halo Infinite, which was delayed until sometime in 2021. In a statement on the Xbox News blog, Microsoft weren’t ready to give an exact date for the launch of their fourth console, or even a price, but were happy to tout that even without Halo Infinite launching this year, there’s still plenty of reasons to invest in a...

With the world under lockdown, it’s the perfect time for all sorts of gaming, be it video games or even tabletop gaming, or even watching people play games. Wizards of the Coasts are well aware of this, and with their upcoming D&D Live event happening from June 19 – 21, they’re bringing a heap of celebrity players and DM’s together virtually for a good cause: play games and raise money for Red Nose Day. The talent on offer is particularly big, with actors such as David Harbour (Stranger Things), Brandon Routh (Legends of Tomorrow), Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil), Janina ...

As we’ve experienced a blockbuster half year on account of video gaming, its not unusual for a few refined titles to fly under the radar. One in particular that I absolutely adore is Nioh 2; the follow up to one of 2017’s best games. While it is an action adventure game at heart, it primarily embraces many elements of the increasingly popular Masocore genre. For fans of games like Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha and the universally lauded Dark Souls, you’ll be expecting steep difficulty curves and light RPG-style stat management to complement the reflex and pattern-intensive flow of ...

You might not have heard of KartRider, a massively popular game in South Korea, but Nexon is making a big push to get the series introduced to the West in 2020. While KartRider Drift will be hitting PC & consoles in the future, KartRider Rush+ is coming to mobile devices and is currently taking pre-registration. Pre-registering will not only get your account ready, but will help contribute to a number of incentives to get you ready when the game launches, such as additional currencies, cosmetics, karts and more. The game is set to feature a huge amount of content for a mobile racing game, i...

Godzilla has done what feels like everything since first hitting screens in 1954. We’ve seen Godzilla battle King Kong in a true East meets West monster showdown. We’ve seen Godzilla take on Charles Barkley in a basketbrawl for the ages. Now the King of the Monsters is taking on the Planeswalkers of Magic: The Gathering in its latest set, Ikoria: Land of Behemoths. Best of all, Godzilla won’t be coming to Ikoria alone. Several of Godzilla’s legendary kaiju rivals will also be joining the action as one of the special features of the Ikoria set: Godzilla Series Monster C...

Quarantine means bingeing, so as a massive Star Trek TNG and Jean Luc Picard fan I was very excited to watch the new Amazon Prime series about Starfleet’s best captain. Best. Captain. Ever. Fite me. Picard rocks. Unfortunately, the Picard series on Amazon Prime ended up being pretty lame. Why was Picard so disappointing? It was about how it ended. Read on and start typing your angry replies now…   SPOILERS AHEAD   Season 1 of Picard was set up very well in the early episodes. I enjoyed seeing some old faces again. The concept was interesting. Then it was all let down by...

It’s a good time to be a fan of Esports and living in Melbourne, as ESL has announced that the Australian leg of the Intel Extreme Masters event will be in Melbourne for the very first time in 2020. It feels like for the last few months, Blizzard Entertainment haven’t been able to catch a break. With their disastrous 2019 is behind them, you’d think 2020 would be a chance for a fresh new start? Well it would, until the release of Warcraft III: Reforged. This new version of Warcraft III aims to be what the Starcraft Remastered project was for Starcraft – updating the game with more integration with modern Battle.Net, some quality of life fixes and improved visuals. Unlike Starcraft Remastered, Blizzard attempted to be more ambitious, with newer cutscenes and some gamepla...
