Steam Machines Announced

September 26, 2013

steam machines logoIn the second of Valve’s announcements this week, Steam Machines are coming. On the same topic as their last announcement, the Steam Machines will be lounge room entertainment systems from “multiple partners” all running SteamOS. These machines will come in different specs and are scheduled to be available in 2014 with more details to come. Valve is also running a beta with 300 prototypes to be sent out to a lucky few, if you want to try your luck you will need to complete the following.

THE HARDWARE BETA ELIGIBILITY QUEST:
Before October 25, log in to Steam and then visit your quest page to track your current status towards beta test eligibility
3. Make 10 Steam friends (if you haven’t already)
4. Create a public Steam Community profile (if you haven’t already)
5. Play a game using a gamepad in Big Picture mode

We are still waiting for more details like what these machines look like, what is in them, what they look like along with more details about SteamOS itself, but for now at least we know we’ll settle with being allowed to do anything we want with it, including being able to “use it to make a robot”.
