Australian STEM Video Game Challenge

20 April-21 August, 2015

Want to design, build and test video games to win great prizes??

The Australian STEM Video Game Challenge is a national competition open to all Australian students in Years 5-12.

The Challenge is completely free to enter, and represents a great opportunity for upper primary and secondary students to engage in learning about science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in a fun and challenging way.

The 2015 Challenge will run from 20 April to 21 August – registrations will close 19 June and submissions are due 21 August. Students are encouraged to work collaboratively to design and build an original video game based on STEM concepts or themes. Entries can be from individuals or from teams of up to four.

Entrants have an opportunity to earn recognition and great prizes for themselves and their school or chosen charity. The games will be played by industry professionals as part of the judging and the winners will be recognised at a national level, and by international bodies within the global gaming industry.

In bringing the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge to life, the ACER Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the Australian Council for Educational Research) is seeking to encourage the participation of key groups that are traditionally underrepresented in STEM areas, particularly girls and students from low-socioeconomic areas.

If you’re an Australian student, in Years 5-12, and you’ve got a great idea for a game – share it with the world! Tell your classmates, friends, parents and teachers and get everyone you know involved with this year’s Australian STEM Video Game Challenge!
