Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes Announced!

May 1, 2014

Disney Infinity logoWith 2014 set to be a big year for Disney and Marvel, Disney have today announced the sequel to 2013′s Disney Infinity, known as Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes.

As the title implies, the game will be adding Marvel characters to the game – with Disney Interactive showing off quite a number of characters in-game. 20+ characters were confirmed for the game, with Thor, Iron Man & Black Widow confirmed to be a part of the Starter Kit. A trailer shown during the announcement showed off The Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow), Nick Fury, Loki, M.O.D.O.K, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Green Goblin and Spider-Man. In addition, said trailer also featured incredibly brief glimpses at the decidedly non-Marvel characters Stitch (from Lilo & Stitch), Merida (from Brave) and Maleficent (from Sleeping Beauty/Maleficent).

By adding the Marvel characters, this has resulted in some dramatic changes to Disney Infinity. Due to adding characters with very specific mobility quirks (such as the ability to fly), the worlds of the game are now larger than in the last years game. Specifically, the game’s Manhattan playset is described as 4 times larger than the Metroville of the Incredibles playset. Flight isn’t also just a better way to get around, you’ll also be able to hover and engage enemies in the air and ground.

To also compensate for these new characters, the Toy Box mode is undergoing an overhaul and is introducing some major functionality. For instance, you’ll have additional brushes to aid in adding cities, racetracks and more into the world, but also the ability to use automated builders that’ll procedurally generate an environment, in which the player can later edit as they see fit. Disney also announced that there’ll be game templates available – with Tower Defence and Dungeon Crawler types demonstrated.

Power Discs will return, and will introduce a number of new objects into the game – such as new vehicle types (like transforming cars & motorcycles), and the ability to summon partner characters. Some partner characters mentioned include the Iron Patriot and The Winter Solider.

Finally, Disney confirmed that all previous Disney Infinity content (from characters, power discs, playsets and toy box levels) will be compatible with Marvel Super Heroes, and that the game will be shipping later in 2014 on the PS3, 360, WiiU, PC, iOS and will appear on PS4 and Xbox One on Day One.
