Microsoft Announces Xbox System X

December 13, 2019

There’s always a major announcement or three at The Game Awards, but Microsoft may have upped the ante with a full-on system reveal. The console previously known as Project Scarlett is now officially called the Xbox System X, and we got a look at its unusual design.

Microsoft is still touting this as the most powerful console they’ve ever built, and even gave a quick look at its controller. It looks similar enough to the Xbox One controller, but with the much-needed and welcomed addition of a Share button. No further details about the console were revealed, except that it’ll still be releasing in 2020. However, Microsoft did reveal one game to go along with it, and it’s one almost nobody was expecting.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is the sequel to 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and one of the first Xbox Game Studios titles to be officially announced for the System X. Ninja Theory will be returning as its developer, and no release date was announced. We did get a flashy trailer, set to Heilung’s Lifa – Alfadhirhaiti, which showed off the game running in-engine.

2020 is set to be an interesting year for gaming, and Microsoft has responded back to Sony’s Playstation 5 announcement in a big way.
