Nintendo Direct – 14/11/13: Nintendo Network Comes To 3DS!

November 14, 2013

Nintendo IwataAfter what feels like too long, Nintendo held themselves another Nintendo Direct livestream, with the intent of focusing on the 3DS in Early 2014, though sprinkled some WiiU news and updates in between.

Arguably the biggest news to come out of the broadcast was more directed to 3DS System Software, as Nintendo are aiming to bring the 3DS in line with the WiiU somewhat. In an update confirmed to be hitting before the year is out, you’ll be able to create or link an exsisting Nintendo Network ID to your 3DS, which will allow you to share your eShop currency between both systems. You won’t be required to have a NNID to make purchases, but free apps and demos will require one.

In addition to this, 3DS Miiverse support is also confirmed to be part of this update – with Nintendo aiming to have the same functionality as in the WiiU version. Due to the large amount of software currently available on the 3DS, most of your back catalogue games won’t have a community at launch, but this is something that Nintendo are aiming to remedy as time goes on. Finally, YouTube will be making its way to the 3DS, while Nintendo have also confirmed there’ll be an update to the WiiU YouTube App.

Game-wise, Nintendo sadly didn’t announce anything major, but did show off a number of things. Firstly, Bravely Default has a demo out for the European/Australian eShop, which you can grab right now! The one new announcement was for Nintendo Pocket Football Club, a 3Ds eShop football management simulator, which is confirmed to be hitting in 2014. Speaking of football, Level-5′s Inazuma Eleven 3 was confirmed to be hitting PAL territories in February 2014 and Pikmin 3 will be getting some additional missions and characters via DLC (including Captain Olimar!). Lastly, Nintendo showed off content heavy trailers for the impending Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

Overall, some major news for 3DS owners, and great to see Nintendo finally setting a firm date on the 3DS Miiverse and Nintendo Network ID integration.
