YouTube to acquire Twitch: Reports

May 19, 2014

twitchtvAccording to recent reports by Variety among various other sources, Google’s very own YouTube has set a deal to purchase Twitch, a video game streaming organisation for over $1 billion.

Twitch, co-founded by Justin.tv and launched in 2011 has seen more than 1 billion users and 6 billion video views of user-generated video game livestreaming since its inception and has since made up 1.35% of downstream bandwidth on broadband networks in America.

With the release of Twitch-branded streaming applications for consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it is now easier than ever to reach this ever-growing audience.

If confirmed, YouTube’s acquisition of Twitch could spell the largest deal in the company’s history, edging in front of Google purchasing YouTube for $1.65 billion.

Representatives of both YouTube and Twitch have declined to comment on current reports. More on this as it comes.
